Home sewn napkins

I am a novice sewer, but decided to try my hand at making my own napkins for Christmas dinner this year. I have red dishes, so not many store bought table cloths or napkins go with them. I found some Christmas fabric in the discount bin at Joann. First I made a template out of newspaper that was 14 square inches. After fininshing, I decided that was a little small, so I'll make them bigger if I try it again. Then I cut out squares from the fabric using my template. I stood at the kitchen counter to cut. I've tried many places to cut fabric and decided this was the easiest. It's just the right height.

After cutting all my squares, I set up my iron right next to the counter and folded over the edges 1/4 inch and then again 1/4 inch. I pinned as I went. I did cut the corners at a diagonal where they overlapped so the corner would not be so bulky. Then I sewed all the edges using my sewing machine.

Here's the finished table setting. I also made the paper ornaments. Hopefully as the boys get older, I can set a prettier table with centerpieces! After they understand they can't touch EVERYTHING. :)
